- What is it good for?
Updates all your favourite Firefox Add-ons to Firefox 3.6.3. This is necessary since a lot of Add-on Authors abandoned their products and no further updates are available. This program will add certain details to the add-on description files (install.rdf) to make them compatible with the new Firefox version 3.6.3, but
at the same time keep them compatible with older Firefox versions.
- How to use
There are 2 modes:
- convert a single add-on extension in the form of an XPI file (those are the onces you can download in many places these days)
- Convert all old extensions in an installation folder.
The program askes you for the folder, in which your extensions are stored, then they are automatically converted. It is always good practice to create back-ups.
You can keep Firefox running, but the changes will only be visible after you close all FF windows.
Q: Will it work with Firefox Portable?
A: Yes, this new version is ready.
- Source code
This program has been written during a night in August 2008. It is based on the script language of the Nullsoft Installation Systems (NSIS):
In order to compile the code, you also need the files zip.exe and unzip.exe, which can be downloaded from info-zip.org.
I had to create copies of language files in the Contrib-subfolder of nsis, in order to change the label of the Install button to Next. The following files need to be created:
- Copy German.nlf to German_EConv.nlf, and
- English.nlf to English_EConv.nlf
In these files you have to look for the word InstallBtn and change the text in the line below.
Feel free to approach me with your wonderful ideas (or bugfixes)
